Ripe Baby Food Ltd.

Please describe the product or service your business offers:

Ripe Baby Foods was created as a result of the increasing demand for children’s food that’s nutritious, organic and delicious. All our vegetables and fruits are sourced from local farmers and all grains are Canadian-grown. Our products are lovingly hand prepared in small batches and made in a commercial kitchen. Ripe’s menu is reflective of each season and products contain absolutely no additives or fillers. Ripe Kamoo Bars and Ripe Organic 5-Grain Mush aim to please the taste buds of beginners and satisfy the palates of more adventurous eaters. All our products are wheat-free, dairy-free, nut-free and contain no white sugars. Ripe packaging is designed to be easily transportable and can be stored in the freezer or fridge. Our goal is to make eating time convenient for parents and both satisfying and enjoyable for kids.

What inspired you to become a Mom Entrepreneur?

After my maternity leave ended I was faced with the choice of going back to work full time or staying home. It was a much more difficult choice than I anticipated and in the end I decided I wanted to try balancing both. I have always loved food and when my daughter began to eat solids I was thoroughly disappointed in the products available. As a self professed foodie I wanted only the best for my daughter and found that other parents agreed, but either didn’t have the skill or time to make their own food. I found an opportunity in the market and went to work developing first frozen vegetable and fruit purees, then toddler bars followed by a hot cereal and there is more to come.

What will the $22,000 grand prize of cash and business advisory services allow your business to do?

This prize will enable me to continue to build my business, raise my profile in the community and most importantly, collaborate with experts who can help me achieve my goal to provide quality meals and snacks for children of all ages.
